She watched her own vocalists battle it out on The Voice Monday night, her 10th studio album dropped on Tuesday, and this morning she performed live on the TODAY show.

It’s official. Shakira is back.

Carson got the chance to catch up with his old friend on Wednesday at the TODAY show, and he couldn’t stop raving about her new music.

He shared his thoughts on Shakira earlier this morning on AMP Radio.

“This album is really a return for her back to, among other things, her rock roots and her musicianship that she’s showing off and flexing a little bit more of a diverse muscle than she has best over the past couple of years,” he said.

On “Can’t Remember To Forget You” featuring Rihanna

This was a great set-up record for her…By the way as a side note, the most-liked musician on Facebook in the world is Shakira at 86.7 million likes. Just behind her [by] 100,000, #2 is Rihanna, so you’ve got two highly talked-about folks  in social media there.

On “Medicine” featuring Blake Shelton

Why “Medicine” is great is they really took more of a Lady Antebellum approach…Blake and Shakira blend often and a lot. And just the vibe of the song, sure it’s got your whiskey kind of feel to it, but I think they met right in the middle musically.

You don’t have to be a country fan to enjoy that…The performance that Shak got out of Blake in the studio, I think he wanted to step it up a little bit because he has a crush on her!

On “The One Thing”…

“It’s got a really cool vibe and I think this one might pop at top 40 radio.”

On “Empire”…

But who are we kidding? The biggest song of the record’s called “Empire.” We don’t play it on AMP yet, I’m sure we will, but it sounds like it’s going to be the biggest single for Shakira, maybe in her career.

It’s got that sort of “Bittersweet Symphony,” remember that song from The Verve? It’s got that kind of feel to it. Sounds big, like an anthem and it goes in and out of tempo, and again, crosses formats. It almost sounds like an alternative song for a second. Hear it enough times, it’ll be as big as any Katy Perry song, so I think she’s firing on all the right cylinders on that.
